What's the MMUR in Florida?

The Florida Medical Marijuana Use Registry (MMUR) plays a crucial role in the state's medical marijuana program. Established following the passage of the Compassionate Medical Cannabis Act in 2014 and further expanded by Amendment 2 in 2016 and Senate Bill 8A in 2017, the MMUR is a comprehensive system for managing medical cannabis use in Florida. It is managed by the Office of Medical Marijuana Use (OMMU) under the Florida Department of Health.

How does the MMUR impact Florida's Medical Cannabis Industry?

By providing a structured and regulated system, the MMUR has contributed to the growth and legitimization of the medical cannabis industry in Florida. It offers a framework that balances patient needs with regulatory oversight, supporting industry growth within legal boundaries.

  • Registry for Patients and Caregivers: The MMUR serves as a registry for qualifying medical marijuana patients and their caregivers. Patients and caregivers must obtain Medical Marijuana Use Registry Identification cards to purchase medical cannabis products legally.
  • Access Control: The registry is the main access point for patients, physicians, dispensaries, and law enforcement, ensuring a controlled and legal framework for medical cannabis use.
  • Qualifying Conditions: The registry outlines specific qualifying conditions for medical marijuana use, including a range of diseases and symptoms such as HIV/AIDS, glaucoma, PTSD, and chronic nonmalignant pain, among others.
  • Physician Participation: Only licensed medical doctors and doctors of osteopathy can recommend medical cannabis after completing a mandatory course. This ensures qualified medical supervision in the program

What does a deep integration with the MMUR include?

Some highlights of the point of sale and delivery integration include:

  • Patient validation to ensure the medical card and recommendation is active
  • Optimize the dispensation between Low TCH and High THC routes of administration
  • Caregiver support to allow caregivers to purchase on behalf of patients
  • Holds for retail delivery with automatic dispensation on delivery
  • Routinely upgraded as the MMUR and Florida regulations change
