Metrc California Guide
Flourish Software is fully integrated with the Metrc
Track and Trace System
Metrc in California 101
Since 2017, California has used Metrc as its statewide track-and-trace system. The Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) and Metrc have worked together to serve the needs of California cannabis businesses better.
A pioneer in state legalization, California voted on and passed Proposition 215, also known as the Compassionate Use Act of 1996, becoming the first state to legalize the use of medical cannabis. In November 2016, California voters approved Proposition 64, the Adult Use Marijuana Act, and legalized recreational cannabis use. With the passing of Prop 64, California became the fifth state to fully legalize cannabis.
The DCC grants licenses based on the specific type of cannabis activity your business intends to undertake. These license types are for:
- Cultivator
- Processor/Manufacturer
- Distributor
- State Testing Laboratory
- Retail Dispensary
- Event Organizer (where cannabis will be sold)
