Metrc in Massachusetts 101

In 2017, Massachusetts established the Cannabis Control Commission (MCCC) to oversee the state's adult-use cannabis program. In the following year, they awarded Metrc the contract for statewide tracking and tracing of medical and recreational cannabis programs.

In November 2012, Massachusetts voted on and passed Question 3, also known as the Massachusetts Medical Marijuana Initiative, permitting the use of state-registered medicinal marijuana.  In 2016, Massachusetts voted and passed Question 4, legalizing recreational cannabis use. In Massachusetts cannabis is fully legalized.

The CCC now has regulatory authority to oversee the entire state's cannabis industry and its licenses such as:

  • Cultivator 
  • Secure transporter
  • Microbusinesses
  • Dispensary
  • Consumption spaces

Do I have to use Metrc in Massachusetts?
