The state of Montana has provider licenses that allow licensees to grow cannabis and sell it to their patients. The providers/caregivers that have built a big patient base open dispensaries but there is no legal difference between a provider and a dispensary.
Providers are limited to 12 seedlings (<12”), 4 mature flowering plants, and 1 ounce of usable marijuana in possession per approved registered cardholder.
(Update on recreational information to come when available.)
Processor licenses allow licensees to purchase marijuana from a grower and extract resin from the marijuana or create a marijuana-infused product for sale and transfer in packaged form to a retail store.
