Metrc (Marijuana Enforcement Tracking Reporting Compliance), is one of the leading providers of state-mandated regulatory and compliance seed-to-sale technology used to trace and trace cannabis throughout the supply chain.
Metrc in Michigan 101
Since 2017, Michigan has utilized Metrc as its licensed cannabis track-and-trace system.
Michigan's medical cannabis program began in November 2008 with the passage of Proposal 1, known as the Michigan Compassion Care Initiative, allowing state-registered patients to cultivate and possess cannabis. In 2016, Governor Rick Snyder signed a bill allowing the operation and regulation of medical dispensaries in the state.
In November 2018, Michigan voters approved Proposal 1, and the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act legalized cannabis for recreational use. Michigan became the first state in the Midwest to fully legalize cannabis.
In 2019, Michigan established the Marijuana Regulatory Agency to regulate the state's adult-use operators. In 2022, the name of the agency was changed to the Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA), which oversees the statewide cannabis programs and licenses such as:
- Cultivator
- Processor
- Secure transporter
- Microbusinesses
- Dispensary
- Consumption lounge
Approved Michigan cannabis license holders must implement and stay compliant with Metrc.
