Getting Started with Metrc

How do I access Metrc?

Receive a license from the OCM.
Complete your "Metrc Learn" training.
Check your email for the login information Metrc provided (learn.metrc.com).
Register for Metrc by following the instructions in the email (ny.metrc.com).

What is a Metrc License?

When you log in to Metrc, you will see a license drop-down at the top right of the screen. This is the "license" within Metrc.

Ensure facilities are fully aligned in Flourish. If you need us to deploy an additional facility to match Metrc, please send the request to support@flourishsoftware.com. There is a one-day turnaround for this request.
Verify the facility's physical addresses against what you see in Flourish
Verify the license Numbers (including suffixes, i.e. -1, -1). These must match the facilities in Flourish. For example:

- OCM-MICR-00-000000-C1 — Cultivation, Location 1
- OCM-MICR-00-000000-D1 — Retail Dispensary, Location 1
- OCM-MICR-00-000000-DX1 — Distributing, Location 1
- OCM-MICR-00-000000-P1 — Processing, Location 1
- OCM-MICR-00-000000-C2 – Cultivation, Location 2

Metrc Tag FAQ

How do I purchase Metrc Tags?

Purchase your plant, package, and retail ID tags in the NY Metrc Portal. It can take a week for the tags to arrive. Follow our Help Doc: How to order your Metrc Tags. Tags are assigned to each Metrc license. If Metrc splits your microbusiness or cultivation license into multiple Metrc licenses, you will need to order tags for each Metrc license.

Are Metrc tags physical tags or digital tags?

Metrc package and plant tags are physical tags. They will be mailed. Metrc Retail ID tags are digital. They are generated on demand. You buy an allotment to draw down from.

How many Metrc Tags do I need?

We recommend keeping a few months of supply on hand. Save on shipping costs by buying in bulk and ahead.

How do I receive my Metrc Tags in New York?

Do not accept the tags until you physically receive them.

Log in to Metrc
Navigate to the Tag Order screen within the correct license
Click "accept" on the order to confirm the tags arrived

How do I use my Metrc Tags in New York?

Any time you create inventory or plants within Flourish, the application prompts you to select a tag. When you select the tag, it assigns the inventory or plant to that tag and records it in Metrc.

How do I store my Metrc Tags in New York?

Do not unroll the tags. The tags have a sequential number at the end. Keep the tags in sequence. This makes it easy to select the "Next 10" if you need to split a package into 10 new packages. Keep a set of tags aside for exceptions. Always keep these secure.

How do I generate a Retail ID Metrc in New York?

This is only available within the Processing License. Use the "Create Package" action to convert the package to a new one, and select the "Finished Goods" flag. This generates the Retail IDs for each unit within the package. Learn more on our Retail ID help document.

Metrc Item & Inventory FAQ

How do I need to configure my items for Metrc New York?

Flourish has imported all of the Metrc categories into your instance.
Please refer to this help document for the required fields for Metrc Categories.
Do not create items directly in Metrc.
Flourish will push items to Metrc. You can push an item to multiple licenses, which helps keep the system in line.

What inventory can I store in my license in New York?

Cultivation Licenses

How do I move inventory between licenses in New York?

All inventory must be on a Metrc Manifest.

Create an Order within Flourish. You can create the order ahead, sync the order from a 3rd party platform, upload the order using a spreadsheet, or use the "bulk actions" to create an order from a set of inventory.

Register the shipment as a Transfer Manifest
Open the Transfer Template in Metrc

How do I receive inventory in Metrc?

All incoming cannabis inventory must come through a Metrc inbound transfer manifest. Learn about how to match the PO with a Transfer in this help document.

How do I test inventory in Metrc?

You can create samples ahead of time to add them to an order, or create an order and split the samples from a source to make them there. Review our help document here.

When splitting to allocate, toggle "Lab Sample" on
Ensure the correct Lab Test Batch is selected
Add the order to a shipment
Sync this to a Metrc as a transfer template
Open the template, review, and register in Metrc

What is a production batch in Metrc?

This flag indicates that you are making a new batch of inventory. It will trigger testing and remove any current tests from the package.

What is a processing job in Metrc?

How can I get more help?

How do I get Metrc training?

Metrc training specific for New York is available through Metrc Learn.

Note: Metrc training is required as part of establishing compliance with their track-and-trace system.

How do I log into Metrc?

In order to receive your Metrc credentials, you must complete your Metrc training first.

After you've completed the training, you'll receive an email to log into Metrc New York.

Note: You need to log in within 72 hrs of receiving your login email.

Am I required to purchase any additional hardware for Metrc compliance?

Metrc operates as a web-based system, accessible exclusively through the internet with the simple prerequisites of an internet connection and a web browser. There is no need to download, install, or maintain any software nor purchase any additional hardware. You will have a wide choice of hardware, as we've documented in our Equipment Guides.

How does Metrc's trace-and-track system work?

Metrc uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) serialized single-use tags to trace cannabis plants and packages throughout its lifecycle, including cultivation, processing, transportation, and sale.

New for New York: All finished products are required to have a unique Retail Item ID. These are digital QR Codes that fulfill New York's COA labeling requirements.

You will need to purchase plant and package tags, and Retail Item IDs directly in Metrc.

Each tag is currently $.10.

Yes. You will need to purchase plant and package tags, and Retail Item IDs directly in Metrc.

How many tags should I order/have on hand?

We recommend ordering enough Metrc tags to cover at least three months of activity, plus a 20% buffer—and if you can, go bigger.

Shipping and taxes are added on top, and shipping costs barely increase between small and large orders. Buying more upfront means:

Fewer reorders
Lower shipping charges over time
Less risk of running out while you wait for the next delivery
