Leaf Data Systems is the official statewide track-and-trace system for Utah's medical cannabis program.

In 2018, Utah voters approved Proposition 2, a significant milestone that legalized medical marijuana in the state. This decision led to the creation of a medical cannabis program that allows patients to legally access and use medical cannabis with a recommendation from a licensed physician. Following the approval of Proposition 2, the Utah Legislature held a special session to make modifications to the original proposition, resulting in the Utah Medical Cannabis Act. The Utah Department of Health and Human Services is the governing body responsible for overseeing the state's medical cannabis program. 

Additionally, Utah has legalized the cultivation of hemp and the production of CBD products that contain less than 0.3% THC. This legislation allows for the legal sale and use of CBD products across the state, providing options for individuals seeking relief without the psychoactive effects of THC.

Approved Utah medical cannabis license holders will need to implement and stay compliant with Leaf Data Systems.

The system uses unique identifiers (UIDs) for plants and packages to track cannabis products from cultivation through to the point of sale. Each entity in the supply chain must report various activities, including planting, harvesting, processing, transferring, and selling cannabis products.
